IDEA AND INSPIRATION
The plot located in Soinaste village, near Tartu, is a spacious meadow, independent from the already established single-family residential areas. The property is undeveloped, and there is no significant vegetation, which allows for long views in every direction. The large plot is conceptually divided in half, with the proposed building located in the eastern part of the plot, while the western side is occupied by a reduced-size football field. Due to the need to create a private and wind-protected outdoor space, the design of the building volume clusters around a central courtyard. The house has a minimalist yet strong architectural language, with the main design element being the multifaceted roofscape. The single-story linear form and the raised terrain around it relate to the surrounding laconic context. The driveway is lined with a row of rowan trees.
The street-facing facade is both representative and private. Parking is available under a carport or in the garage. The northern part of the U-shaped floor plan contains the main entrance, a spacious wardrobe, a garage with a utility room, and a sauna complex, which also opens to the courtyard terrace. In the center of the building, an elongated living room is designed, with an open kitchen and dining area. Moving through the living room, one reaches the more private part of the house with 3 bedrooms, bathroom and a home office. In the center of the courtyard, which is open to the evening sun, there is a fire pit with a circular bench and an outdoor pool. The terrace can be closed with sliding glass panels.
The exterior finish maintains a minimalist approach with matching façade and roof, reaching all the way to the ground. Inside walls are finished with sand-colored plaster with recessed lights under the canopies highlighting the relief of the plaster surface.
