The team at VNDL was exactly what we were looking for when starting to plan our new home. Creative, ambitious and also very considerate with what we wanted. As we had quite a set vision already, it was really nice to have architects to listen and incorporate our ideas with their expertise and experience. Timo and Veiko really helped us take the original idea to a whole next level. Our aim was to create a modern home in the countryside that’s functional, spacious and suits our lifestyle. We wanted a little touch of beach style living to be incorporated and couldn’t be happier with the design VNDL made for us. 10/10! Truly, couldn’t speaker more highly of them.

IDEA AND INSPIRATION

The site is located in a former fishing village of Ihasalu, surrounded by sea, pristine nature and small residential buildings. The building is situated in the eastern part of the plot therefore being closer to the sea and overlooking the coast but also facing east and the evening sun. Large floor to ceiling windows enable to enjoy natural light and long views form the living room, the sauna and from the terraces. The building is divided into three smaller volumes emphasizing their different functions and mirroring the scale of the village. Towards west of the residence lies a small yoga studio with an outdoor kitchen and dining area. The buildings form a unified architectural complex.

The site is accessed from the southern side through a spacious court. An open entrance area leads straight to the living and dining zone which is located in the heart of the building.  The garage is placed right next to the entrance and opposite of the sauna area which consist of lounge area, bathroom and the sauna. Passing through the central living space you find you the separated sleeping area in the northern part of the building with three bedrooms. The master bedroom features a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom. All the living spaces benefit from high ceilings with the single pitch roof design. The living room and the sauna both open to outdoor terraces. The jewel of the lounge area is a floor to ceiling corner window facing the yard and the evening sun.
